Variable Stiffness Joints
The conventional design solutions of buildings cannot always perform well in a changing environment. By changing the structures into optimal shapes corresponding to different loading conditions, the structural performance will be improved. Our project aims to synthesize a type of structural joint (or hinge) with variable stiffness capabilities by using Shape Memory Polymers. The variable stiffness joints can be applied in the shape control of adaptive structures.
